01Why this converter
Any video, the right format.
Four reasons creators, designers, and archivists keep this page open instead of installing HandBrake.
- 01
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV — any direction
Pop a video in, pick the format you actually need on the other side. The tool handles the codec swap with sensible defaults.
- 02
FFmpeg, in the browser
The same FFmpeg that powers half the video tools on the planet, running locally via WebAssembly. No installer, no command line.
- 03
Plays everywhere
MP4 output uses H.264 + AAC and the +faststart flag — meaning it plays in any browser, on every phone, in any inbox preview.
- 04
Footage stays with you
Internal recordings, client edits, family clips — they all convert locally. Wirelogs never gets a copy of the file.
02How it works
Three steps to a compatible video.
- Drop videoclip.mov84 MB · 0:48
Step 1Drop the video
Drag in an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, or M4V up to 500 MB. A preview loads while the tool reads the duration.
- FormatMP4WebMMOVMKV
Step 2Pick the output format
MP4 for compatibility, WebM for smaller web files, MOV for Apple workflows, MKV when you want to keep more tracks.
- Convertedclip.mp4MP4 · 62 MB
Step 3Save the new file
Click Convert. The browser re-encodes via FFmpeg and gives you a clean file with the right extension. Re-run for a different format anytime.
03Use cases
When the format blocks the share.
Most conversions are about getting a video into the format some platform expects. These are the swaps that come up most often.
MOV from iPhone to MP4
Phones export MOV; most apps and platforms prefer MP4. Drop in, pick MP4, get the universal format the rest of the internet expects.
IMG_0044.mov → IMG_0044.mp4MP4 to WebM for the web
WebM is smaller at the same quality and natively supported in browsers. Convert before hosting and your page loads noticeably faster.
hero.mp4 → hero.webmMKV to MP4 for sharing
MKV is great for storage but awkward to share — most messengers, email clients, and slide tools want MP4. Convert and send.
movie.mkv → movie.mp4Editor exports to delivery
Editors often export MOV with ProRes-style codecs. Convert to MP4 for client review without burning bandwidth.
edit.mov → review.mp4WebM back to MP4
Downloaded a WebM but need MP4 for an old player or a CMS that won't accept WebM? Convert in seconds.
clip.webm → clip.mp4Standardise a folder
If your archive is a mix of formats, convert everything to MP4 so any device in the future can play any clip without thinking.
Mixed folder → uniform MP4s
04Supported outputs
Pick the format you need.
Four containers cover every reasonable destination, from a marketing site to an editor's timeline.
- MP4
Convert to MP4
Universal video format with H.264 + AAC. Plays in every browser, every phone, every inbox.
- WebM
Convert to WebM
Smaller than MP4 at the same quality and natively supported in modern browsers.
- MOV
Convert to MOV
QuickTime container, comfortable in Apple workflows and Final Cut.
- MKV
Convert to MKV
Flexible container that can hold multiple audio and subtitle tracks.
05Quick tips
Convert with intent.
Habits that keep the output predictable and the workflow snappy.
- 01
MP4 is the safe default
When in doubt, pick MP4. It's the format every platform, phone, and app handles without complaint.
- 02
WebM saves bytes on the web
If your audience is in modern browsers, WebM is 20–30% smaller at the same quality. Great for hero videos and tutorials.
- 03
Convert, then compress
The converter uses sensible defaults but doesn't aggressively compress. If the result is still too big, run it through the video compressor for another big drop.
- 04
MKV preserves more, takes more time
MKV is best when you need to keep multiple audio tracks or subtitles. For everyday sharing, MP4 finishes faster and plays everywhere.
06Loved by
Creators, designers, and archivists use it weekly.
iPhone MOV files used to confuse the CMS we use. Drag them in here, pick MP4, upload. No platform errors, no missing previews.
Switching hero videos from MP4 to WebM dropped page weight 25%. Lighthouse loved it. Conversion takes less time than the meeting it was for.
Inherited a folder of mixed formats. Standardised everything to MP4 over a weekend. No upload, no subscription, no fuss.
07Questions
Video conversion, plainly answered.
Quick answers before you convert your first clip. Anything missing? hello@wirelogs.com.
01Which input formats are supported?
MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, M4V — basically every common consumer and prosumer video format. Even unusual containers usually work because FFmpeg is doing the heavy lifting.
02Which output format should I pick?
MP4 if you want it to play anywhere. WebM if you're hosting on the modern web. MOV if you're staying inside Apple's ecosystem. MKV when you need to keep multiple audio/subtitle tracks.
03Will conversion change the resolution?
No. The video keeps its original width and height. If you need to resize, do that in an editor or with a dedicated resize tool first.
04Will quality drop?
There's some loss because the video is re-encoded — that's true of any conversion. The defaults are tuned so the difference is invisible for typical content. To keep the highest possible quality, pick the format with the most lenient compression for your use.
05How long does it take?
Roughly the same time as the video's runtime, sometimes faster on shorter clips. WebM is slower than MP4 because libvpx is heavier than libx264.
06What's the maximum file size?
500 MB per file. Most everyday videos are well under that. Larger or longer? Trim first with the video trimmer.
07Is the tool free?
Yes. No usage cap, no watermark on the output, no premium plan, no sign-up.
08Where does my video go?
Nowhere. FFmpeg runs in your browser via WebAssembly. Files never leave your machine, which keeps client work and personal footage private.
